Two seasons, two top-five contest finishes. P.J. Gallagher announced himself with a tie for 4th of 185 in March Madness in 2021-22, then did it again in a different sport, a tie for 5th of 220 in the NFL Playoffs pool in 2022-23. The overall board followed him up, from a tie for 73rd of 185 to 58th of 220, while hockey and Survivor did the quiet lifting: 20th of 185 in the NHL pool the first year, a tie for 32nd and then a tie for 34th in Survivor. Golf, at 147th and then 209th, was the one pool that never warmed to him. Twenty contests, a bracket run and a playoff run, and a trend line pointing the right way when the record ends.
